Introduction
by Charles Friedman, Ph.D.
Welcome to the 21st century, where the average age of anti-social, criminal, sexual, and gang related activity is ten years of age. It is a fact that one and a half million young people are dropping out of high school every year. Kids are growing up too quickly, and there is no longer an ‘age of innocence’.
The 21st century may be the Age of Technology, but technology is not the culprit here. Technology and other factors have certainly contributed to eliminating the age of innocence. But technology is simply a delivery system for the adult visions and values that have helped propel kids out of their childhoods at an alarming rate.
However, technology has also become the premier method of reaching America’s adolescence in a positive manner. Edutainment (a combination of education and entertainment) has been proven to be able to deliver positive lessons and values that can counteract the negative influences that kids are exposed to on their own. Interactive content can stimulate the attitudes, emotions, social, and psychological development of the individual.
I never wanted to be or intended to be a salesman, but I have taken the lead roll promoting these educational tools I have created, simply because the people in the trenches fighting for your children’s future have discovered that they are the most effective way or reaching through to the kids of the 21st century. Through feedback, scientific assessments through letters, emails, and testimonials of the teachers, mentors, government agencies, and school districts already using this interactive curriculum and educational tools, we have confirmed in countless cases that these innovative tools work.
The 21st century brings with it a level of fierce competition that past generations have never experienced. With digital cell phones and the internet capturing every aspects of a youth’s life, any potential blemish or mistake, legal or not, will be under scrutiny. The choices your child makes could affect their access to the “American Dream.” All social levels in our society are facing the same problems of anti-social behavior caused by the decrease of good judgment and social skills. Regardless of your socio-economic status, your child is still at risk. The gap between the middle and upper class widens every day. But make no mistake, the children of political leaders, religious leaders and successful businessmen are now in the same risk category for drug and alcohol abuse, violence, and other anti-social behaviors as lower- and middle-class kids. The only difference is this group has the money to throw at possible solutions.
The middle class, on the other hand, can ill afford the stress, anxiety, financial hardships, and unnecessary burdens that these behaviors can cause. The middle class families have enough struggles without these added dilemmas.
So with institutions, schools, athletic programs and mentor programs from Colorado to Florida and from New York City to Wisconsin already finding great successes with these Curriculums and tools, we have decided to make them available to the public for use at your home, with the hopes they will help strengthen your family’s communication while building your child’s decision-making and problem-solving skills, preparing them for the many issues they are faced with everyday.
There is a cost for these programs, but you could end up with a child having a baby, joining a gang, stealing, abusing drug and alcohol, feeling the effects of anxiety and stress, bullying or being bullied, or just not understanding consequences of their actions. The stress, anxiety, and financial costs to repair issues like these far out weighs the cost to prevent them.
These tools are not only preventive maintenance; they help children develop leadership and problem-solving skills. They can even help your child understand the importance of a healthy diet, as well as helping children affected by ADD by providing positive influences and strategies for a successful future.
If you love your child and want to do all you can to help them succeed by developing personalities and attitudes that make them shine while strengthening your family’s bond, these tools are for you. As a premise for parents, I have written a book describing how and why each curriculum was developed.
In the latest Rocky movie, there’s a scene where Rocky has returned to fight a younger, faster, and stronger opponent. He starts to take every punch the contender unleashes on him only to return each blow twice as hard. The camera focuses on Rocky’s haphazard brother in-law, Paulie, in the corner admiring Rocky’s ability to take every punch given, then returning an equally vicious blow and muttering “Welcome to Rocky land.” Movie goers who have seen a previous Rocky movie understand the impact of these words.
In terms of these tools, Welcome to Motivational Intervention |
